River International Leadership Institute & Seminary is registered as a non-profit organization in the state of North Carolina and has received full recognition and permission to operate as a bona fide Religious Institution with Exemption from state licensure. Under the The University of North Carolina System Policy Manual (Chapter 400.4),
River International is not a publicly recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. RILIS is first and foremost an institution focused on teaching and training Christian leaders and those seeking theological education. Therefore, at least this time, the institution chooses to not pursue USDOE accreditation status, whose primary benefit is for those students seeking financial aid and/or access to educational loans. RILIS, however, is pursuing private accreditation under a soon to be revealed international Christian accrediting agency.
The purpose of accreditation is to ensure that schools have outside peer reviewed oversight in order to ensure compliancy to the highest educational standards and to help maintain organizational integrity through ethical practices. This type of partnership and educational oversight is necessary and is welcomed by RILIS.
